By Faryal Asif
As a Mental Health Counselor, Educational Psychologist, and advocate for women’s entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and sustainable tourism, my journey has been one of resilience and purpose. This International Women’s Day, I reflect on the challenges that have shaped me and the milestones that fuel my passion for change. From navigating the complexities of education and mental health to leading initiatives that create opportunities for women and youth, my mission remains clear: to build spaces where voices are heard, valued, and empowered.
I have always carried multiple roles—not just as a professional but as a daughter, a sister, and a mentor to youth ranging from ages 3 to 23. My engagement with them has deepened my understanding of inclusion and diversity, reinforcing my belief that empowerment isn’t just about leading the charge—it’s also about uplifting those who are already making an impact. Many individuals work tirelessly in diverse fields to create a better world, and I firmly believe that supporting their efforts is just as crucial as leading my own.
Mental Well-Being & Education: Building a Stronger Generation
As an Educational Psychologist and Well-Being School Counselor, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles students face—from stress and anxiety to the deep need for belonging. Every session, conversation, and breakthrough has reinforced my belief that mental well-being is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Through advocacy and structured interventions, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that young minds not only survive but thrive.
Entrepreneurship, Youth Engagement, & Tourism for Economic Growth
Advocating for women’s entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, and sustainable tourism has been a significant part of my journey. As the Convener of FPCCI’s Central CSR Standing Committee on Innovation & Entrepreneurship, I have worked to bridge the gap between business, social responsibility, and policy-making. Whether supporting women-led startups, fostering sustainable entrepreneurship, or addressing climate change’s impact on mental health, my focus has remained on innovation with purpose.
Through HEF events and other initiatives, I have helped create platforms where female entrepreneurs and young professionals can gain skills, network, and find mentorship. Additionally, I believe tourism plays a vital role in Pakistan’s economic growth, and I continue to champion projects that highlight the country’s cultural and natural beauty while ensuring that women and youth play an active role in shaping its future.
Championing Awareness & Breaking Taboos
Women’s health and mental well-being have often been overlooked, but I refuse to let silence define our narratives. Through breast cancer awareness initiatives and mental health advocacy, I have worked to shatter myths, provide life-saving knowledge, and create safe spaces for women to prioritize their health. Whether through educational reforms, panel discussions, or networking events, I strive to make well-being a standard, not an exception.
A Collective Effort for Inclusion & Change
My journey hasn’t been without struggles—there have been moments of doubt, resistance, and the ever-present challenge of balancing multiple roles. But each setback has been a stepping stone, and every small victory fuels my larger mission. Today, I stand not just as an individual but as part of a larger movement—one where women lead, innovate, and uplift each other.
This International Women’s Day, I celebrate my journey and the collective strength of every woman daring to break barriers. To the dreamers, the changemakers, the silent warriors—your voice matters, your work is valid, and your impact is unstoppable. Let’s continue to shape a future where inclusion, empowerment, and well-being are at the heart of everything we do.
