By Wardah Malik
Passionate about environmental sustainability, I am the Chairperson, Founder, and Executive Director of the Women in Climate Pakistan Organization and E-Learning Education and Trainings. My journey into climate activism began as a student when I became deeply aware of the pressing challenges of climate change. Driven by both passion and profession, I have dedicated myself to this cause, earning recognition as a Certified Climate and Sustainability Champion, Climate Reality Leader, and Sustainability Officer.
As I progressed in my education, I realized that climate change is not just a distant threat—it is an urgent reality that affects every aspect of our lives. However, I noticed that many people either dismissed these issues as unimportant or lacked the knowledge to address them. This widespread lack of awareness ignited a sense of responsibility within me, and I knew I had to take action.
Taking the First Steps
Determined to make a difference, I actively engaged with numerous non-governmental organizations focused on environmental advocacy. My involvement allowed me to learn from experts, participate in meaningful discussions, and contribute to sustainability initiatives. However, I felt that more needed to be done, particularly in engaging young people and raising awareness on a broader scale.
With this vision in mind, I took a bold step and founded my organization, Women in Climate Pakistan. Through this initiative, I aimed to create a platform that would not only educate and empower women but also provide them with opportunities to contribute actively to climate action. Our mission has been to bridge the knowledge gap, amplify women’s voices in environmental discussions, and drive impactful change in communities across Pakistan.
Leading Climate Action on National and Global Platforms
My journey as a climate activist has taken me beyond national boundaries. I have had the privilege of representing Pakistan and my organization on international platforms, where I engaged with like-minded individuals and organizations dedicated to environmental sustainability. These experiences have reinforced my belief that collective action is essential in tackling climate change.
As a Climate Reality Leader, I have taken on leadership roles in climate advocacy, conducting workshops, training sessions, and public awareness campaigns. I have authored articles and blogs to shed light on critical environmental issues and have used my platform to initiate discussions on sustainability practices. Additionally, I have worked as a consultant, expert, and professional advisor, helping organizations implement sustainable strategies that align with global climate goals.
The Power of Community and Youth Engagement
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my work has been engaging with young people. I firmly believe that the youth hold the power to shape a sustainable future, and empowering them with knowledge and resources is crucial. Through Women in Climate Pakistan and my e-learning initiatives, I have conducted training programs, workshops, and mentorship opportunities for students and aspiring climate leaders.
Building a community of people dedicated to climate action has been one of my biggest achievements. Together, we have initiated environmental projects, promoted green practices, and influenced policy discussions. I have witnessed firsthand how small efforts, when combined, lead to significant positive change.
Looking Ahead: A Future of Sustainable Impact
My journey in climate activism is far from over. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities to contribute to a greener world. My organization and I remain committed to expanding our efforts, collaborating with global stakeholders, and finding innovative solutions to combat climate change.
I encourage everyone to adopt an environmentally responsible lifestyle. Every small action counts—whether it is reducing waste, conserving energy, or advocating for sustainable policies. Let us work together to create a world where climate consciousness is a priority, and let us continue striving for a cleaner, healthier planet.
